Nahko and Medicine for the People ist unglaublich mitreissend und positiv. Der Song stimmt fröhlich und ist inspirierend, vor allem mal ganz was anderes. Deshalb hat er seinen Platz in diesem Blog gefunden. Es war der erste Song den wir gehört hatten, der uns auf diese Band aufmerksam gemacht hat.

Der Musiker Nahko Bear, geboren und aufgewachsen in Portland, verbrachte viele Jahre in Hilo, Hawaii.
Er singt aus aus seiner Seele, erzählt seine Wahrheit und verbreitet seine Leidenschaft in einer Art und Weise die Verbindung schafft. Zur inneren Kraft und welche Möglichkeiten es für uns in der Welt gibt.
Nahko Bear ist apachenindianischer und puertoricanisch - philippinischer Herkunft, adoptiert von einer amerikanischen Familie und für viele heimatlose Menschen dieser Erde eine Art musikalischer Prophet.
In seinen Texten geht er offen mit seiner schwierigen familiären Situation um. Nahko war das "Ergebnis" einer Vergewaltigung seiner Mutter von seinem Vater, was er in seinem Song "So Thankful" erzählt.
Mit seiner Band "Medicine for the People" singt er von Einheit, Respekt, Meditation, dem grossen Geist, Gebet und Liebe. Die Musik ist durchzogen von heilsamen Vibrationen, Narben kultureller Wunden, sozialer Ungerechtigkeit und animiert das Publikum zum Lachen, Tanzen und Weinen.
Die lyrischen Geschichten geben den Zuhörern Mut und ihre ureigene Macht zurück. Die Rhythmen sind manchmal wild, überschwänglich, aber immer transformierend. Wahre Geschichten, echte Gefühle und Lösungen für die Heilung der Erde und der Menschen finden sich in den Texten.
Er versucht durch seine Musik den Vagabunden, Verlassenen, Suchenden ein Gefühl der Verbundenheit zu geben, eine Familie. Das liegt daran, das Nahko Bear selbst - laut eigener Aussage - seit seiner Kindheit ein Suchender nach seiner Familie ist.
"Aloha ke Akua"
Ein Erfolgssong mit einem atemberaubenden Video, das wie ein Virus um die Welt ging.
Die Worte kommen aus der hawaiianischen Sprache und bedeuten soviel wie "der Atem des Lebens und die Liebe Gottes". Der Song war eigentlich ein Gebet an ihn selbst, dass alles in Ordnung sei, wie er in einem Interview mitteilte. Von dem Erfolg war er selbst auch mehr als überrascht gewesen.
"Wenn ich mich in einer Meditation erden möchte, nehme ich mir Zeit, werde ruhig und verbinde mich mit dem Ozean und der alten Sprache des Landes und der Pflanzen. […] Ich bin auch nur ein Mensch, und ich werde Fehler machen, aber ich freue mich auf die vor uns liegenden Herausforderungen und bete oft um Klarheit, um Führung und Tapferkeit auf diesem Weg."
